I am a student at the University of Maryland, College Park, and my major is in biology. In response to the prompt, I believe that new technology is leading our society. This can be evinced by the observation that so many people depend on technology for maintaining or improving one's quality of life. For example, we depend on the chemistry of filters and various filtration techniques to provide a clean water source to many places across the world. A second example would be in communication, where many people now use cellular devices to converse with people that are miles away, or even in a different country. Another method by which technology leads our society is through somewhat of a positive feedback loop. An example of this would be when the use of a certain technology discovers a new energy source/material. This new source of energy/material can be used to develop more efficient technology that can lead to more discoveries, and therefore again may lead to new technology. Hence, the positive feedback nature of technology, and we as a society are in for the ride.
